International Women's Day

Happy International Women's Day! I love today, it's like Christmas with everyone rallying around to support, love and empower each other. With all the recent crap...looking at you Trump...today is like the glitter dusting on what has been a turd of a year (so far) for equality. But enough about President Fart and other idiots...it's time to CELEBRATE!!

Below is a little collection of incredible women that are just raising the bar when it comes to being a total girl boss. I hope this list inspires you to go out in the world and be the best damn girl boss you can possibly be. You got this boo, go forth and be awesome!

Smalls For All - Smalls for All is a fantastic charity which helps women and children in Africa meet their most basic hygiene and security needs. It was launched in 2009 by the incredible Maria Macnamara.

Having no underwear can be a health and hygiene problem for many poor African communities. Many teenage girls miss out on valuable days of schooling when they are forced to stay at home every month. Underwear is also seen as a status symbol and offers a degree of security as women who can afford underwear tend to be seen as having someone who cares for them, they are not on their own, so they are not seen as vulnerable.

Smalls for All and their supporters help to collect and distribute underwear to women and children in Africa who need it most. They collect brand new pants, as well as brand new bras and worn bras that still have good wear left in them. They support those living in orphanages or IDP camps, as well as those suffering from medical conditions like obstetric fistula. Smalls also helps to fund the education of children in Africa too. They work with local charitable organisations in Africa to ensure we provide help in a practical and sustainable way.

Check them out on Facebook to see how you can get involved and where to send your old unwanted bras.

Sarah Kay - Sarah is an incredible American poet. She's best known for her spoken word poetry which motivated me throughout my Creative Writing dissertation.

Kay is also the founder and co-director of Project V.O.I.C.E. which was founded in 2004. It's a group dedicated to using spoken word as an educational and inspirational tool. The project is inspiring a generation of children one school at a time.

Have a listen to her beautiful poem 'If I should have a Daughter' from her TED Talk for inspiration on how we should all be raising our children. I wish I was just half as eloquent as her!

J K Rowling - Not for the incredible world she created from her imagination or the small fortune she's made from it, not even for her countless charitable acts. Oh no, this shout out is for taking on Piers Morgan and winning...duh. Twitter gold!
I'm not just in love because I don't like Piers Morgan...he's a knob so yeah...but Rowling is and will forever be a guiding light for her audience, adults and children alike. And to see her stand up to bigoted, sexist and racist individuals on a daily basis in the most bad-ass way possible gives me hope. Also she created Hermione, the literary heroine every little girl needs in their life to look up to.

The strong and empowering women I'm surrounded by every day - These women give me strength, lift me up when I don't think I can make it and are my inspiration in everything I do.
